Billionaire Kiereni dies, leaves unresolved death of two sons
Billionaire businessman and former Head of Public Service Jeremiah Kiereini is dead.
With a huge interest in real estate, insurance, coffee farming and the hotel industry, Kiereni, 90 years, was an important part of Kenya’s public service history because of his many achievements.
President Uhuru Kenyatta mourned Kiereni stating that he was a champion in the modernization of the Kenyan military when he served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.
However little is known about his family life except the death of his two sons in the same house but on different years.
One of the late sons, Githae Kiereini’s body was found in his two bedroom pad along Nandi Road in Karen, Nairobi last year.
The body of the 42 year old lay in the house for three days before it was discovered by the lady who cleaned his house.
Githae had also died in the same house his brother, Mburu Kiereni died in 2013, also under unexplained circumstances.
Kiereini also served as Chairman of the Kenya Breweries Board (KBL) in 1988, a company he later transformed into the East African Breweries Limited.
The late Kiereini served on the boards of several companies including Unga Group Limited, CMC Holdings, CFC Stanbic, Heritage Insurance and CFC Life among others.
