Parliament to respond to alleged misappropriation of funds in the 85-delegate US trip
The National Assembly is today expected to respond to accusations of misappropriation of funds in a trip to the US to attend a conference.
This is after Kenyans got wind of the trip where Kenya is sending 85 delegates from Parliament, County Assemblies and members of staff to Nashville, Tennessee.
According to a report on the trip, Kenya will cough up at least Sh100 million for the 85 which will cater for flights and accommodation as well as allowances.
Kenya is sending the largest delegation in the world to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
It is followed by Nigeria which is sending 20 representatives.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has called for answers from the Senate and National Assembly over what he terms as ” a culture of waste and living large at the expense of tax payers that has become the mode in our legislatures”.
The ODM Party leader on Wednesday also called on those organizing the trip to share the list of everyone that is travelling and how they made the list.
“Parliament has to publish the names of each of the members, the aides of those members attending the conference, how much they were paid in allowances and tickets and why it was necessary for them to attend the conference in the first place.”
