Machakos Senator Boniface Kabaka died on Friday while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
Kabaka was rushed to the hospital a week ago after he collapsed while in the company of a high school teacher who was on sick leave.
Esther Nthenya Muli was later arrested and detained as investigations into the saga continued. This angered a section of leaders from Ukambani who came to Nthenya’s defense, saying she was an innocent lady being accused of what she did not do.
And a day after the senator’s family issued a statement dismissing claims that he had died, the legislator has eventually passed on.
Leaders from across the political divide have eulogised the senator as an astute lawyer, teacher and husband.
Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua said the county has lost a great man who was key to development in the county. The governor said Kabaka died of a stroke as a result of a blood clot, dismissing claims he died from a viagra overdose.
“On behalf of myself and the people of Machakos, I pass my condolence to the family of our beloved Senator Boniface Kabaka who has gone to be with the Lord due to the effects of a stroke arising from a blood clot that has been bothering him for a while. Senator Kabaka was an astute lawyer and legislator. Before he became Senator he had for a time served as my Government’s legal counsel. He was a lively man with strong dedication for the improvement of the welfare of the people of Machakos and Kenya. This is a big blow to us. At this time of sadness and loss, let us remember his family and keep them in our prayers. Senator Kabaka – Lawyer, Teacher, Husband, Father, Leader and Trail Blazer: He will be greatly missed. May the Lord give comfort and strength to his Loved ones. Rest In Peace.”
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula said he is shocked by the untimely death of Senator Kabaka, a person he described as a great lawyer and legislator.
“The shocking death of distinguished Senator Kabaka of Machakos has truncated an illustrious and promising career of a visionary leader. An avid debater whose valuable contribution will be missed. Condolences to his family and Machakos people. RIP.”
Amani National Congress Leader Musalia Mudavadi also mourned the senator.
“My deepest condolences to the family of the late Machakos Senator Boniface Kabaka who has sadly passed on.”
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina could not hide his disgust at the news that his close friend had passed on. He swore while eulogising the senator, asking God why he allowed it to happen.
“Today I lost a friend, a colleague and a great leader. I am so sad! This is so f**ing upsetting! God why now? To the family please be strong, Kabaka was family to 68 of us in the Senate! We miss him dearly! R.I.P comrade!”
Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi, aka Jaguar, also mourned the senator: “My deepest condolences to the people, family and friends of Machakos Senator Boniface Mutinda Kabaka. May God grant them peace and strength at this time of mourning. May Sen.Mutinda Rest In Eternal Peace.”
