Boni Khalwale tells Uhuru to pay COVID-19 allowance to medics over KSh 100M for artistes

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider medics fighting Coronavirus ahead of artistes in Kenya.

Khalwale, while appreciating the move by the president to announce that Kenyan artistes will be given at least KSh 100 million, said the medics at the forefront fighting the killer disease should be given first priority.

He urged Uhuru to give them COVID-19 allowances and provide them with the necessary equipment as they fight the virus.

“Ksh100m to our artists is not a bad idea. However, the President must immediately: 1. Provide PPEs & pay Covid-19 risk allowance to our medics 2. Support vulnerable Kenyans on Rent/Food/Water/Electricity 3. Provide masks & sanitizers 4. Subsidize the cost of quarantine,” Khalwale said.

His sentiments came after Health CS Mutahi Kagwe told Kenyans to brace themselves for worse moments ahead as the Coronavirus cases rose to 172 on Tuesday.

Kagwe further said that the government will conduct mandatory tests on health workers to avoid transmission of the virus.

He said the health workers will be provided with all the required equipment in the coming two weeks.
