Bomet has a new governor after Joyce Laboso’s death
Bomet county will get a new governor on Thursday, August 8, following the death of Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso.
Laboso’s deputy, Dr. Hillary Barchok, will be sworn in at Bomet’s Green Stadium from 9 a.m.
Deputy President William Ruto is among top dignitaries expected at the ceremony.
The swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by Kericho High Court Judge George Dullu.
Barchok will then be faced with the task of naming his deputy, with calls being made that he considers a relative of Laboso.
The calls were led by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiganjo during the burial of Laboso at her home in Koru, Kisumu county.
Laboso succumbed to cancer of the colon after battling it for 28 years.
She left behind a husband, Edwin Abonyo, and two sons. She died aged 58.
