A boda boda rider in Meru county has found his way into many people’s hearts after rescuing a child that had been abandoned in a miraa farm on the dawn of June 4, 2021.

James Ng’olua was on his way to start his day when he spotted a crowd of people spectating the abandoned infant who was swaddled in a blanket.

Speaking to Daily Nation, the young man said none of the locals was interested in helping the baby and when he decided to take him, many warned him that he should not get involved.

“Though many discouraged me from getting involved, I stopped doing what I was doing and took the baby,” he said.

He went to Laare Police Station to report the matter and also handed the little one to the law enforcers.

By evening, the mother of the child had not been traced and the boda boda rider decided to voluntarily take in the baby in his home until his family is found.

He promised to take care of the infant and also promised to give a report about his well-being every day.

Fight with wife

At first, when he took the child to his home, his wife was not welcoming of the idea given the couple has four children between the age of one and 13 years.

“It almost caused a conflict but we talked about it and I persuaded her to accept the child,” he said. Days later, Igembe children’s officer John Mwangi confirmed the child’s grandparents had come forward to claim him.

The boda boda rider said he would have continued to take care of the baby if his family had not been found but he was, nonetheless, happy that he would be reunited with his immediate family.

Rescued by detectives

In a separate report, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) rescued a four-year-old child who was kidnapped by a houseboy.

Baby Liam Ngucwa Mwangi went missing on June 2, 2021, at his grandparents Murang’a home and was believed to have been abducted by the house boy.

According to a statement by the investigative agency on Monday, June 7, the young lad was found safe in a house in Naivasha after days of a painstaking search. Do you have a groundbreaking story you would like us to publish?
