Betting and gaming firms in Kenya have suffered a setback after the government through the Interior Ministry issued a directive Thursday, May 2, 2018, regulating gambling advertisements.
The Betting Control and Licensing Board has also banned celebrities from endorsing gambling operations.
In a statement issued by the board and signed by its Ag. Director Liti Wambua, the following have been banned:
- Outdoor advertising of gambling.
- Advertising of gambling on all social media platforms.
- Advertising gambling between 6 a.m and 10 p.m.
- Endorsement of gambling operations by celebrities.
The ban comes days after Interior CS Fred Matiangí warned that the government is concerned about the gambling addiction in the country.
Matiangí warned that the government would look into the issue and make necessary decisions.
