Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Friday celebrated his 21st marriage anniversary with wife Primrose.

From what the governor shared, it has not be a walk in the park for the two, but they have stuck with each other through thick and thin.

The governor started with a simple statement encouraging women to stick by their men no matter the circumstances, saying his wife stuck by him when he was incarcerated.

He said by then he had nothing but Primrose chose to be with him because she knew the kind of person he was.

“Do not leave him because he is broke or in prison. When Raila Odinga was in detention Ida Odinga didn’t dump him, also when I was in prison my wife Primrose never left me,” Sonko said.

But the governor went deeper, revealing their humble beginnings, especially when they ran matatu business in Nairobi.

Sonko shared a feature clip done by veteran broadcaster Terryanne Chebet when she worked with CNBC media house.

Chebet interviewed Primrose when together with her husband they introduced the double-decker buses that plied the city centre-eastlands route.

Then, Primrose doubled up as a makanga and director for the company.

“We reintroduced the double decker buses to curb traffic congestion back in 2006 and mama was also once a tout. Vumilianeni kwa mapenzi you never know of tomorrow,” Sonko said.

Then there was one incident when Primrose and her kids were almost shot by the dreaded flying squad operatives.

Sonko and his wife had bought a Range Rover from Deputy President William Ruto.

Apparently, the Range Rover belonged to former President Daniel Moi and had been reported missing.

So a signal had been sent for the flying squad to find the car by all means. It was Primrose in the car with the kids when she was ordered to stop and get shot.

She obliged, stopped and wondered why police were trailing her. She produced documents showing they had genuinely purchased the car.

Apparently, the Range Rover had been stolen from CMC Motors showroom and it was not clear how because even its keys were still in their premises.

“It’s also good to refresh the memories of our bad experience after purchasing the late former President Moi’s Range Rover,” Sonko said as he shared a clip.

Then there are numerous throwback photos proving that indeed the couple has come a long way.

All in all, Sonko insists that marriage require patience and understanding.

“Vumilianeni kwa mapenzi you never know of tomorrow,” he concludes.
