2020 has been the year from hell – a ravenous virus, global pandemic, lockdowns, unprecedented social restrictions, Donald Trump, I mean, if you’ve made it this far, you can make it anywhere.
But amid all the madness, the confusion and the dreariness, in comes the fresh sound of one of the most revered dance gurus and vocalists in Kenya – Judge Jo-1.
As of to lift us from the gloom that has been 2020, Judge Jo-1 has roared back in the industry and with a serving that is as hot as it’s title – BOOM BOOM BOW.
After a short musical hiatus, that probably saw her travel the world and enthrall audiences with her serpentine moves, Judge Jo-1 has boomed her way back into the charts and we can’t help but break into a move.
Boom Boom Bow is Jo-1’s latest release – an infectious mix that ignites excitement, calls you to the dancefloor and lights up the room.
The jam exudes an instant dance vibe, riveting display of musicality and artistry; the perfect pop fusion mix of Afro-Caribbean reggae.
But because Jo-1 is, first and foremost, a dance luminary, it would be a shame if the video did not exhibit the dance ace’s legendary moves – its Ancient Egyptian vibes are masterfully enscapulated by a colorful crowd of epic dancers and vivid party vibes.
The infectious pop/dancehall banger lyrically compares thunder and lightning to the passion that exists between two lovers – A love that is so strong, fierce and connected, that it’s symbolically unbreakable on all levels.
This was obviously easy to pull off by Jo-1, a visceraly gifted musical titan who, owing to her immense gifts, presided over the hugely-popular Sakata Dance Show on Citizen TV as a Judge for a solid FOUR seasons.
In this particular music video, Jo-1 also, like Ava Duvernay before her, debuts her directorial skills and its safe to say, she nails it almost to a fault.
Faces of Africa and MzushiJijo also collaborated with Jo-1 in rolling out one of the finest, best-directed and riveting music videos of 2020.
