Kenya records the highest number of Coronavirus deaths in a single day

The number of patients who have succumbed to Coronavirus in Kenya has grown after the highest number of deaths in a single day was recorded on Thursday.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman said 10 people died in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of fatalities in the country to 117.

At the same time, the country recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a single day.

213 new positive cases were recorded, taking the total number of recorded cases in the country to 4257.

This was from a sample of 6024 tested in the last 24 hours. This is also the largest sample tested in a single day in Kenya since the virus was first reported.

151 of the new cases are male while the remaining 62 are female. The youngest of the new cases is a one year old and the oldest is 73 years.

Nairobi county leads with 136 of the new cases, Mombasa is second with 32, Kajiado has 13, seven are from Kiambu, five from Busia, four each from Nakuru and Machakos, three each from Garissa and Isiolo, two from Taita Taveta and one each from Kitui, Migori, Narok and Embu counties.

The 136 cases in Nairobi are from Dagoretti North- 36, Westlands- 25, Kamukunji- 17, Kibra- 13, Makadara- 11, Starehe- 8, Lang’ata- 9, Kasarani- 6, Embakasi East- 4, Embakasi North- 3, Ruaraka- 3 and Embakasi Central- 1.

In Mombasa, the 32 new cases are from Mvita- 20, five each from Likoni and Kisauni and two from Changamwe.

On a positive note, 106 more patients were discharged from hospital on Thursday after fully recovering from the virus.

This brings to 1459 the total number of patients who have recovered from Coronavirus in Kenya.
