I go home knowing Uhuru is not behind this, ousted Deputy Speaker Kindiki Kithure says
Tharaka Nithi Senator Kindiki Kithure has been ousted as Deputy Speaker after a four-hour debate in the Senate on Friday.
A total of 54 senators voted in favour of Kindiki’s impeachment.
Those who voted against the impeachment motion were seven.
In his defence submission, Kindiki stated he has nothing but respect for the Head of State as the leader of the country.
“I hold him in the highest esteem and veneration…. I will support him loyally until the end of his administration… I wish him all the best,” Kindiki said.
He emphasized that the move to remove him from the said position was an outsider who has vested interests.
“There are those who thought I could be cajoled or even threatened in engaging in what in my view is a treasonable project that would destroy this country. .. Humility is not a sign of weakness,” Kindiki said.
Kindiki further expressed disappointment at the Jubilee party for quickly convening what he terms as trivial and petty issues while the country is dealing with serious economic issues over the attack of Coronavirus.
“I bow in shame to note that we are here today for such an elitist triviality powered by petty, divisive and vindictive politics as the country hurts from the lethal combination of a nearly collapsed economy, a ravaging pandemic, floods…” he said.
The motion to oust Kindiki was sponsored by Muranga Senator Irungu Kangata who is also the Senate Chief Whip.
